About Me

Who, me?

H e l l o!  I’m Julie Paterson, a Scottish artist & illustrator.

My collection of bespoke artwork has developed over time, often blending hand drawing and sketching with digital art.  I attended Glasgow School of Art, in Scotland, and worked as an Interior Designer for many years before returning to art and illustration.  My experience in technical drawing and in understanding the architecture of buildings often influences my artwork style in different ways.

Currently based in Glasgow, much of my work is locally themed and often focuses on the nostalgia of the spaces, buildings and architectural features around us.

I have a print collection which focuses largely on destinations and venues which people hold dear, the places that make you happy - from music venues, to nightclubs, to wedding venues - and I also complete private commissions for customers across the UK and further afield, typically for house and business portraits.

Every purchase you make and every review you leave means the world to my small business, thanks!

What does it mean?

Turadh is a Gaelic word, pronounced 'too-rag'.

It's used to describe the weather, specifically a break in the clouds between showers.  That brilliant moment when the sun creeps through the gaps.

It felt apt, given the weather in Glasgow and Scotland most of the time, not to mention the reality of photographing subjects for future artworks - nipping out during those brief dry spells!

It was also important to me to find a name that reflects the happiness I want my drawings to bring.  All of the places I sketch represent a special memory for someone, whether it's of a special day, special people, a life-changing event, or a moment in time that you never want to forget.  I think 'Turadh' is a word that perfectly reflects those particular moments that bring joy and happiness.

I get asked about this often and I'm not always very succinct at explaining, so I thought a little clarification was in order :)
