Our Tenement Door in Pink illustration is an example of a typical tenement door. These were built in Edinburgh, Glasgow and subsequently across Scotland to provide housing for large numbers of people arriving in the cities. During the Victorian era the use of decorative 'Wally tiles' was common place on the stairwells and landings, along with stained glass doors and ornamental detailing at the entrances to each flat. The level of detail varied depending on the affluence of the buildings but the importance of keeping a clean close did not!
